Our Curriculum for 2012 - 2013

It's that time of year again! Although we have already delved into our curriculum this year ( it's our 2nd week here!), I thought I would still share what we are doing this year. Keep in mind, our base is Abeka books - I just love them! I am also including my
niece whom I am teaching right now as well. :

"Optimus" (1st Grade)

• Phonics: Abeka Letters and Sounds 1 & Language 1
• Reading: Abeka reading book set for 1
• Spelling: Abeka Spelling 1
• History: Abeka History 1
• Science: Abeka Science: Discovering God's World
• Bible: Abeka primary Bible reader and Activity book. Also,What's In The Bible DVD series- all together, along with BIble Stry books.
• Health: Abeka Health and Manners 1
• Handwriting: Abeka cursive 1
• Math: Saxon math 1

"Ariel" & niece "Rapunzel"(K4)

• Phonics and Math: Abeka ABC 123 K4, BOB books
• Handwriting: Abeka cursive K4, manuscript sheets I print
• Bible:What's in the Bible DVD series, Read and Share Bible Story book 
• More: I add extras all the time from blogs and worksheets I make up. We also play a lot of learning games and make up ways to learn.

We just started last week, August 1st, and we are already having so much fun! This year I have decided to fore go a traditional schedule and we are trying a year-round schedule. Our plan is to do 3 wks on and 1 wk off each month. I think it is great because if we miss a day anywhere in those 3 wks, we have a whole wk to pick from to make it up! I love the shorter summer break as well...no rusty minds when coming back to school!
